Opening of the 2014-15 6th BMS Concert Season
An Evening of Bulgarian Poetry and Classical Music in Memory of Valeri Petrov: Lillia Slavova (Actress) and Friends
Join us for a magical evening of Bulgarian poetry and Classical music in memory of the legendary Bulgarian poet Valeri Petrov. The phenomenal Bulgarian actress Lillia Slavova will perform, in English and Bulgarian, poems by Valery Petrov as well as poems from the Anthology of Contemporary Bulgarian Poetry “The Season of Delicate Hunger.” The anthology, edited and translated by Katerina Stoykova-Klemer, features works by young Bulgarian poets. Ms. Slavova will be joined by Ivo Kaltchev (piano), Petko Kolev (guitar), Jeni Maneva (piano) and Dimitar Naumov (piano) who will perform original and classical music selections. Featured in the program will be also Anita Gougleva and Victoria Ivanova who will represent the states of Virginia and Maryland in the up-coming 2014 “Miss Bulgaria in USA” competition in New York City. Our special guest, Katerina Stoykova-Klemer, will sign copies of her Anthology of Contemporary Bulgarian Poetry after the concert.

Back by popular demand! After their spectacular performances in 2012, 2013, and 2014, the students of the Music Theater Division of the Catholic University of America Benjamin T. Rome School of Music, one of the top three music theater programs in the U.S., are coming back to present another showcase featuring selected scenes from the Broadway show Carousel, music by Richard Rodgers, book and lyrics by Oscar Hamerstein!! Do not miss it! And feel free to come with a Halloween costume!

Co-presentation by the Bulgarian Music Society Concert Series in Washington DC and the Bulgarian Concert Evenings in New York Concert Series. A special treat for piano music lovers. This solo piano recital features one of the most successful Bulgarian classical pianists today. Ms. Stoytcheva will perform works by Mozart, Schumann, Ravel and Rachmaninov.

Two instruments, four performers, six virtuosos! Come to hear four of the most talented young musicians of the Washington DC area who are prizewinners of national and regional music competitions. The program will include solo and chamber music works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann, Rachmaninov, Lalo, Saint Saens and other classical composers.
