Opening of the 2017-18 9th BMS Concert Season

Gala Concert: A Tribute to Dr. George Lazarov and St. George Foundation

featuring

Vocal Ensemble Orfeia, Tatiana Sarbinska (Artistic Director of Orfeia), 

Gustavo Ahualli (baritone), Julia Angelov (violin), Jeni Maneva (piano), 

Ralitza Patcheva (piano), Ivo Kaltchev (piano), Catherine H Lim (piano), 

JeongEun Kang (piano) and Eunsuk Jung (piano)

Do not miss this spectacular musical celebration of the generosity, inspiration, spirit and vision of the founder of the Bulgarian Music Society, Dr. George Lazarov.  Join us and H.E. Tihomir Stoytchev, Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria in the US, to honor Dr. Lazarov for his outstanding civic and charitable work in promoting and supporting the arts in Bulgaria and the United States. The gala will be recorded by a visiting Bulgarian TV team which is preparing a documentary for Dr. Lazarov.

Co-presentation by the Bulgarian Music Society Concert Series in Washington DC and the Bulgarian Concert Evenings in New York Concert Series. This distinguished and successful Bulgarian husband and wife team will present a chamber music concert featuring works by Mozart, Brahms, Tabakova and Schoenfield.

DUO per se: Scot Humes (clarinet) and Tania Tachkova (piano) 

Two of the finest musicians from New York City will perform works by Brahms, Paquito d'Rivera, Debussy, and Anthony Donofrio (world premiere). A real clarinet showcase!

Music Theater Showcase: Leonard Bernstein at 100

The Music Theatre Division of the Catholic University of America joins 12 other local arts organizations to partner with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to participate in the yearlong international centennial celebration of Leonard Bernstein – local, national, and worldwide events that pay tribute to this incomparable artist whose influence and impact on arts and culture in the U.S. and around the world have transcended genres and generations. This 55-minute review-style show will include pieces from West Side Story, A Party with Comden and Green, Wonderful Town, Peter Pan, The Lark, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, and others.

Opera Gala: Prizewinners of the 2017 “Partners for the Arts” Vocal Awards Competition

Do not miss our annual and classy evening of popular arias performed by some of the most talented opera singers in the United States. This is a co-presentation by the Bulgarian Music Society and the Partners for the Arts Organization.

Boris Christoff Tribute: Photo Exhibit, Documentary Film, and Concert

Elena Dragostinova (curator, director of the Boris Christoff museum in Sofia, Bulgaria) and Svetoslav Tchoulin (photographer)

This multi-media event is part of the 2018 European Month of Culture and is a co-presentation by the Bulgarian Music Society Concert Series in Washington DC, the Bulgarian Concert Evenings in New York Concert Series in New York and the Boris Christoff Museum in Sofia, Bulgaria.  Join us to celebrate the legacy of the legendary Bulgarian singer Boris Christoff.  The concert program includes arias and art songs by Mozart, Verdi, Lehar, Gounod, Petkov, Tcherkin and Rodgets and Hammerstein.
